Electronic Disclosure for Investors' NETwork

Electronic Disclosure for Investors' NETwork (EDINET) is the electronic corporate disclosure system operated by the Financial Services Agency (FSA) of Japan for the submission, processing, storage, and public dissemination of statutory corporate and securities filings. Introduced to modernize Japan's securities disclosure framework, EDINET enables listed companies, investment funds, financial institutions, and other reporting entities to file disclosure documents electronically while providing investors, regulators, researchers, and the public with timely access to corporate, financial, and regulatory information. The system serves as the principal repository for disclosures required under Japan's Financial Instruments and Exchange Act and plays a central role in promoting transparency, investor protection, and efficient capital markets.

EDINET is used by publicly listed companies, foreign issuers, investment trusts, securities issuers, and other entities subject to Japan's securities disclosure requirements. The system accepts a wide range of statutory filings, including annual securities reports, quarterly securities reports, semi-annual securities reports, extraordinary reports, registration statements, securities registration amendments, tender offer documents, large shareholding reports, and internal control reports. EDINET also supports the electronic submission of financial statements using XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language), enabling standardized, machine-readable financial reporting and facilitating the comparison and analysis of corporate financial information by investors, regulators, and market participants.

The EDINET system was developed by the Financial Services Agency as part of Japan's transition from paper-based securities disclosure to electronic reporting. Electronic filing became mandatory for most reporting entities in 2008, significantly improving the speed, accessibility, and efficiency of corporate disclosure. Subsequent enhancements introduced support for Inline XBRL, improved search functionality, open data services, and application programming interfaces (APIs) that enable automated retrieval of filing information by financial institutions, researchers, software developers, and business intelligence platforms. Through these developments, EDINET has become an essential source of corporate and financial information relating to Japanese listed companies and capital markets.

EDINET operates as a core component of Japan's securities regulatory framework and supports the oversight responsibilities of the Financial Services Agency, the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission, the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and other financial market institutions. The system is widely integrated into financial data platforms, investment research services, regulatory compliance systems, academic research databases, and corporate intelligence tools. Through its electronic disclosure infrastructure, EDINET has significantly enhanced the transparency, accessibility, and standardization of corporate reporting in Japan, making it one of the country's principal public repositories of securities and financial disclosure information.
