The BSE Limited (formerly the Bombay Stock Exchange, BSE) is an Indian stock exchange headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Established in 1875 as The Native Share & Stock Brokers' Association, it is the oldest stock exchange in Asia and one of the oldest continuously operating stock exchanges in the world. The exchange provides a marketplace for the trading of equity shares, debt securities, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), derivatives, currencies, and other financial instruments. Regulated by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), BSE plays a central role in India's capital market infrastructure by facilitating capital formation, price discovery, and securities trading for domestic and international investors.

BSE operates fully electronic trading platforms that support trading across multiple asset classes, including equities, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, interest rate products, debt instruments, and mutual funds. Through its subsidiaries and associated entities, the exchange also provides clearing and settlement services, market data dissemination, index administration, risk management, investor education, and technology solutions. BSE's benchmark index, the S&P BSE SENSEX, comprises 30 large, well-established companies listed on the exchange and is one of India's most widely followed stock market indices. The exchange also maintains a broad family of thematic, sectoral, strategy, and fixed-income indices developed in collaboration with S&P Dow Jones Indices.

Throughout its history, BSE has played a significant role in the modernization of India's securities markets. It was among the first exchanges in India to introduce electronic trading, online surveillance systems, dematerialized settlement, internet-based trading, and sophisticated risk management frameworks. The exchange has also expanded its offerings through platforms for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), startup listings, international market connectivity, commodity derivatives, mutual fund distribution, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investment products. BSE became a publicly listed company in 2017, with its own shares listed on the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE).

BSE works closely with institutions including the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL), Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL), the Indian Clearing Corporation Limited (ICCL), the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), and the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA). Internationally, it is a member of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) and collaborates with global exchanges and financial institutions on market development initiatives. Through technological innovation, transparent market operations, and regulatory compliance, BSE remains one of the world's leading securities exchanges and an integral component of India's financial system.
