The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world's largest humanitarian network coordinating international disaster response, health programmes, and development activities among National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Established on 5 May 1919 as the League of Red Cross Societies in the aftermath of World War I, the organization adopted its current name in 1991 to reflect the global diversity of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the IFRC is one of the three constituent components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, alongside the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the recognized National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Federation works to strengthen humanitarian action through international cooperation, disaster preparedness, public health initiatives, and community resilience.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies coordinates international assistance during natural disasters, public health emergencies, climate-related crises, and other non-conflict humanitarian emergencies. Its principal responsibilities include supporting National Societies in disaster response and recovery, strengthening disaster preparedness, promoting community health, improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), enhancing food security, supporting migration and displacement programmes, encouraging blood donation services, and building local humanitarian capacity. The IFRC also mobilizes international emergency appeals, deploys emergency response teams, and coordinates relief operations among National Societies during major humanitarian crises.

In addition to emergency response, the IFRC develops global policies, technical guidance, and research relating to disaster risk reduction, epidemic preparedness, climate adaptation, resilience, humanitarian diplomacy, digital transformation, and volunteer development. It publishes the annual World Disasters Report, one of the leading global assessments of humanitarian trends, disaster risk, and resilience. The Federation also supports implementation of international frameworks such as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and climate adaptation initiatives while promoting innovation, community-based approaches, and evidence-based humanitarian programming.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies works closely with institutions including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the United Nations, the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). It also collaborates with governments, regional organizations, humanitarian agencies, academic institutions, and civil society organizations worldwide. Through disaster response, public health programmes, humanitarian coordination, and international cooperation, the IFRC plays a central role in strengthening global humanitarian resilience and supporting vulnerable communities across the world.
