The Moody's Corporation (commonly known as Moody's) is an American financial services company specializing in credit ratings, financial research, risk analysis, and data analytics. Headquartered in New York City, the company traces its origins to 1909, when financial analyst John Moody began publishing credit ratings for railroad bonds in the United States. Moody's became one of the pioneers of modern credit rating services and has since evolved into one of the world's leading providers of credit risk assessments and financial intelligence. The company is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol MCO and is a constituent of the S&P 500.

Moody's operates through two principal business segments: Moody's Ratings and Moody's Analytics. Moody's Ratings assigns credit ratings to governments, sovereign states, corporations, financial institutions, structured finance products, insurance companies, and municipal issuers, providing independent assessments of their ability to meet financial obligations. Its credit rating scale ranges from the highest investment-grade rating of Aaa to lower speculative-grade categories, and its ratings are widely used by investors, lenders, regulators, and policymakers in evaluating creditworthiness and investment risk. Alongside S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings, Moody's is recognized as one of the "Big Three" global credit rating agencies.

Through Moody's Analytics, the company provides software, economic research, financial modeling, risk management solutions, regulatory compliance tools, and data services for banks, asset managers, insurance companies, corporations, and government institutions. Its offerings include credit risk modeling, climate and environmental risk analysis, anti-financial crime solutions, stress testing, know-your-customer (KYC) services, and macroeconomic forecasting. Moody's also publishes economic indicators, industry research, and market intelligence that support investment analysis and strategic decision-making across global financial markets.

Moody's serves clients in more than 150 countries and plays a significant role in international capital markets by promoting transparency, facilitating capital formation, and supporting informed investment decisions. Its credit ratings influence borrowing costs for governments and corporations, while its analytics platforms assist institutions in managing financial, operational, and regulatory risks. Together with organizations such as S&P Global, Fitch Ratings, Bloomberg L.P., London Stock Exchange Group, and MSCI Inc., Moody's forms an essential part of the global financial information and market infrastructure ecosystem.
